Our Guiding Principles
Our work is grounded in our beliefs and values which inform our approach and strategic analysis.
Beliefs and Values
abolition
Abolition stems from anti-carceral organizing and is a political vision with the goal of eliminating systems of harm and dominance and replacing them with practical strategies and methods such as restoration and community care.
queer black feminisim
Queer Black Feminist lens is a political theory and practice developed out of Black feminist and queer liberation movements. This praxis (thought + action) is a lens through which we work to better understand the conditions of all marginalized people
highlighting what we must transform to ensure freedom and justice for all oppressed people.
inter-connectedness
We believe that if you want to go fast go alone, but if you want to go far, go together. Our work embraces meaningful strategies of conceptualizing transformation. A core tenet of our modeling the idea that transformation and change does not occur in isolation, there are always forms of collaborators a part of the process.
eco-justice education
Eco-justice education examines the relationship and balance between human communities and healthy ecosystems based on a critical analysis related to: power, reciprocity, interconnectivity, impact, transformation, generativity. We see eco-justice education as the key framework to capturing the most holistic and expansive vision of a better way forward.
Critical Pedagogy
Critical Pedagogy is a theoretical framework that examines issues of power, focusing on praxis, or translating knowledge into action. Critical pedagogy sees education as a tool for empowerment, a place where learners develop the knowledge and skills they need to undo oppressive structures and achieve liberation.
de-colonization
Decolonization is the process of revealing and dismantling colonialist power in all its forms. This includes dismantling the hidden aspects of colonialism that are institutional and cultural forces that remain even after political independence is established.
